Silly Girls

When we were silly girls
we’d run to you
spread blankets
and break bread in your sheltering shade
We’d climb you
and carve initials
and crooked hearts
You always whispering something
in the rustling of your leaves
Something about Honor
and Tradition
and Strength
Lightening took you
your trunk makes a fitting marker
You give yourself to tomorrow
as saplings break through
to meet the sun
and silly girls.
